In accordance with the policies adopted by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the contact info a domain is registered with must be correct and up to date all the time. Additionally, this information is publicly accessible on WHOIS web sites and while this may be okay for corporations, it may not be very convenient for individuals, since anybody can view their names and their personal postal and email addresses, particularly in times when identity fraud isn’t that infrequent. Because of this, registrar companies have launched a service that hides the details of their clients without editing them. The service is called Whois Privacy Protection. In case it’s activated, people will view the details of the registrar company, not the domain owner’s, if they make a WHOIS search. The Whois Privacy Protection service is supported by all generic domain extensions, but it’s still impossible to hide your private information with certain country-code extensions.

Whois Privacy Protection in Cloud Hosting

If you order a cloud hosting plan from us, you’ll be able to enable Whois Privacy Protection for any of your domain names if their extensions support this service. You can register or transfer a domain and enable Whois Privacy Protection upon registration or you can activate the service for any of your domain names at any moment later through the Hepsia hosting Control Panel. The process is exceptionally easy – after you log in, you’ll have to go to the Registered Domains section where you’ll notice a list of all the domain names that you have registered through us. For each of them you will notice an “Whois Privacy Protection” button, which will tell you whether the service is activated or not. By clicking on it, you can either Whois Privacy Protect the domain, or you can turn off the service if it is currently active.

Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

In case you have a semi-dedicated server account with us and you register a domain name under it, you can add our Whois Privacy Protection service without any effort. This takes only a few clicks of the mouse in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel, through which you manage everything associated with your account. This is the place where you can see all your active domains and for each one of them you’ll see an “Whois Privacy Protection” logo, using which you can enable, renew or deactivate the service. Of course, this will be possible only with generic and country-code domain extensions that are Whois Privacy Protection-eligible and you’ll be able to see this in advance, so that you will not end up paying for a service that we can’t provide.
