Whenever you add a domain as hosted in some account, you typically set a pair of Name Servers to direct it to that particular service provider. On their end, three records are created automatically right after the domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The former is a numeric address, or IP address, that “tells” the Internet domain where its site is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they reveal the server that deals with the emails for that specific domain. The site and the email hosting are often thought to be one thing, while they're in fact two different services. Having independent records for them will enable you to have them with different providers if you'd like. As an illustration, some new service provider may have outstanding uptime for your website, but you may not want to switch your e-mails from your current host and by employing an A record to point the Internet domain to the first and MX records to have the emails with the latter, you will get the best of both providers. These records are checked when you want to open a site or send an e-mail - either way, the company whose name servers are used for the domain is going to be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you have set records different from their own, the right web/mail server will then be contacted and you will see the needed site or your e-mail will be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting account through our company and you wish to move either your website or your emails to a different provider, it is going to take you literally only 2 mouse clicks to do this. Our Hepsia Control Panel comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you will be able to see and edit the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you wish to use a different email provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the standard two, it will not take more than a couple of mouse clicks either to add them. You may also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the higher the priority a given MX record will have. The propagation of each record that you modify or set up isn't going to take more than a few hours and if required, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which indicates how long a record will stay active after it's modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, provided with our semi-dedicated servers, will permit you to see the A and MX records for each of the domain names or subdomains in your account and if necessary, to update any of them or set up new ones. Managing these records is quite easy as all domains/subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically, so editing a record is as easy as entering it in a box and saving the change. Creating a new one takes just a few more clicks and if you experience any troubles, you can check out our instructional videos on how to create A and MX records. Our system is user-friendly enough to be used by individuals with little or no previous experience, yet advanced enough to provide you with total control over all records and to permit you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you are pointing your e-mails to a different provider and they ask you to create more than two different MX records, you can choose the priority of each one.
